Author, historian and director Jeff Ryan will be hosted by Dr. Mark Madison, USFWS Historian for an evening discussion and the screening of Ryan’s latest film, Howard Zahniser: Champion for the Wilderness.

Zahniser’s dedication to ensuring that some pieces of America remain “untrammeled by man” continues to be an inspiration and holds  particular significance today.

Ryan’s film traces Zahniser’s life from his upbringing in rural Tionesta, PA to his involvement with protecting two national treasures — Adirondack Park and Dinosaur National Monument — before dedicating his life to the passage of a national Wilderness Act. The film concludes with a tribute to the wild areas Zahniser helped become designated as forever wild.

The event will take place in two parts — an author talk from 6 – 6:45 pm and the movie screening plus Q&A from 7 – 8 pm. Both will be streamed live on the NCTC’s Facebook page.
